Hi I am Emily. I am 13 years old but my birthday is coming up. I am very short for my age but I like being small. I play soccer on Black Diamond Soccer Club (BDSC). I am a forward or an outside midfielder. I also love music. As a matter of fact, I play the tuba. Some people say that it is too big for me, but I think it is perfect. But not all music works for me. I am the absolute worst singer you will ever hear. My family says that I am tone deaf! My absolute favorite color in the entire world is YELLOW! Like Lemons! (Hence the name) I love yellow so much, my room is yellow, lots of my clothes are yellow, and my shoes are yellow. My favorite food is pizza. I also love just about all candies, and chocolate is my idea of heaven. Ice cream with warm brownies and my mom’s homemade Strawberry Shortcake are my favorite desserts. Unless you count whipped cream as a dessert. I love whipped cream, one time, when I was little, I ate the entire can of whipped cream.

Intelligence
Intelligence is a form of status. Different people are gifted with different abilities in life. Some are talented at music, others at sports, and some just in education in general. However, there are some that are naturally born with a lower IQ. Those people have to work harder to achieve what others may do easily. Normal everyday activities are difficult and surviving the day may be a challenge. Unfortunately, these people are looked at with distaste. It is harder for them to earn the status of being 'smart'. Many people do not want to be friends with them just because they are different. They can still be wonderful people even if their disability is severe. Smarter people should help those with a lower IQ, so it is easier for them to feel included. Be kind to everyone and the world will be a better place where no one is discriminated on their.
There are two kinds of "smart". There are the book and school smarts, and the street smarts. The kind of smart that everyone seems to notice is the school smart. Probably because these people are the ones who are "the odd one out" when it comes to group projects or other school related get to togethers. I think that they don't have many friends because, "smart" people always seem to have a certain vibe to them that make people not want to be around them. We think that Charlie, from "Flowers for Algernon" doesn't realize that most genuinely smart people have the same socially awkward ways that he does. So, even if he does grow out of his mental disability, there is still the big possibility that he could have the same amount of friends that he has now. Charlie doesn't realize that being smart isn't the full ticket into the fabulous world of having many friends. Also, he has to find people that has the same hobbies and likes as him in order to make more friends. But, there are always going to be those people in the world who won't like him, and he will soon come to realize that he can't please everyone.
Everyday Challenges

"Smart" people are respected, but that doesn't always mean they will have more friends. The people who have the most friends, whether they are smart, or not are the ones who are truly nice people, someone who can get along with everyone, and treats everyone equally. Being smart does not guarantee your friends, it's how you treat other people. Charlie believes, that if he goes through with the experiment/surgery, he will have a straight shot at having friends, but what would give him friends, would be being the nicest that he can be. Some people with mental disabilities, try to fit in a much as possible, because sometimes they are the ones who stand out. Sometimes people with mental disabilities can’t learn as well, as people who don’t have those disabilities, in some cases people who have mental disabilities can’t be as ‘smart’ because their disability limits them. People with mental disabilities have to try harder to learn in the same ways people without a disability can learn. "Smart" people have many challenges that they experience. One challenge "smarter" people have is that people expect so much out of them, and they add a lot of pressure to their schoolwork. Everyone has challenges in life, friends, and school even though they may or may not have a mental disability. People with a mental disability also have everyday struggles that people who don't have a disability don't go through. Things from just doing grocery shopping can sometimes be a struggle. All in all everyone has struggles with everything in life, it does not matter if you have a disability or not.

Limitations and Discrimination by Lauren R. and Madison D.
Intelligence comes in many different forms, sometimes in forms that most people don't recognize right away. Charlie from Flowers For Algernon is mentally disabled but that doesn't hold him back from wanting to be "smart". He sees "smart" people as people who have friends and no problems. He believes that if he was smart that he would have more friends and not that many problems. But Charlie doesn't comprehend that smart people have problems too.
Everyone has challenges and difficulties in their life. They range from family issues, to friendship problems, to intellectual comprehension. Every person has their own battle they deal with secretly, regardless of their IQ. For example, smart people deal with stereotypical people who think more of their intelligence and less of their personalities. As for mentally disabled people, they deal with seeing the world in different ways and being seen in a different way.
People think that being intellectually gifted is a walk in the park, but they don't see it from smart peoples perspectives. For instance when gifted children are placed in a regular class, they are easily bored because the work comes so easily to them that they have no reason to try. Also, many people stereotype the smart people thinking that they want the hard, boring jobs and that they grow up wanting to be genius' but that is not always the case. Lastly, gifted children are sometimes raised with high expectations that they will be the next President or brilliant scientist. The parents and teachers probably don't know that they want something else in life because they grew up doing nothing but learning. Smart people have challenges in the world that most people don't recognize immediately.
Mentally challenged people also have their fair share of difficulties. Sometimes, they can't comprehend simple concepts while others pick it up quickly. They get scoffed at from others because of their limitations. It's hard for other people to relate to them because of their differences. In the end, regardless of your IQ, we all have to face challenges that we have to fight to overcome.

Do you think intelligence is overrated? Many people who are very smart can be mistaken for nerds, but that is not always the case. Being smart doesn't really change the number of friends you have in most cases. People with above average grades can have difficulties. They may think that they have friends, but the "friends" are just being nice because they want to get good grades. If people are very smart, we believe that they can have little or no common sense. Also, they can get very bored because the grade/ elementary school are not challenging enough for them, or they are not getting the learning that they need. Smart people could have many problems later in life when they are too smart for the people around them. People that may focus too much on grades, may have some difficulties with making friends. Also, they may be anti-social, or have problems with being social. Some people may have problems, but they may not be life long. Unlike Charlie in "Flowers for Algernon," he has life long issues to deal with. He has problems with making friends because of his mental disabilities. Smart people, and people with mental disabilities both have problems, but they are not the same. Smart people can have the same number of friends as someone who is dumb. Smart people have to face the fact of being super smart and not having the common sense needed in life. Dumb people have to face the fact of being dumb or getting bad grades and getting in trouble lots. People with mental disabilities have to face the issues of having the troubles of not being able to make friends. In all, everyone has difficulties that are all different.
Inteligence, Overrated?
Being smart does not guarantee that you have friends. People who lock themselves in their rooms studying all day may not have many friends to be with. If you look at grades, some people who are failing can have friends, and they are classified as "dumb". Being smart does not mean social skills. The two may not come hand-in-hand, but it may help. Learning how to interact with other people is a key skill to learn, and is probably one of the most important skills to have. Intelligence is, in fact, overrated. Intelligence is not a ticket for having friends, and your friends usually could care less whether your smart or not. People like Charlie, the main character in "Flowers for Algernon" who has a mental disability, face daily difficulties of fitting in and understanding others. Then there are people who don't have mental disabilities and they too may have troubles fitting in and making friends. Charlie says he wants to become smart, have friends. When he wants to have friends, he really means that he wants the skills to interact with other people and learn how to be with other people other than the people in his special school. Everyone is born with a certain IQ, but if they don't use the skills of their brain, their IQ won't be used to the full potential it is capable of. Intelligence and amount of friends does not move together, it all depends on whether or not you apply yourself and have the skills to interact and communicate with other people.

What is Smart?
Smart vs. Dumb Parker and Gavin
We believe that smarter people are generally richer than less intelligent people and will be able to buy friends. For an example a smarter person will be able to apply for jobs with a higher salary. While the less intelligent person will only be able to apply for a lower difficulty job with less pay. Therefore, the smarter person will have more disposable income which they will be able to spend on friends. That is why a smarter person will be able to have more friends.
Taking reference from the movie Charlie you can see that they had little to no respect for him because of his lack of intelligence and mental disability. When smart people can associate with other people whom respect them for their intelligence. While smart people respect smart people they have little respect for the lower intelligence level. However, the less intelligent people may seek refuge and friendship in their own lower intelligence level.
We believe that both intelligent levels, smart and dumb share similar challenges. Such as both intelligent levels receive ridicule for their intelligence. For example in the movie Charlie, his coworkers had him carry bags of flour knowing that he would fall. He received ridicule from his lack of intelligence. However, very smart people receive the exact opposite ridicule. People become jealous of their intelligence and therefore bully the smarter people. Smart people are barraged with slang names such as nerd and dork. So, you can see that both dumb people and smart people have very similar problems with challenges of lack and an abundance of intelligence.
Intelligence is Important
Intelligence is a very important trait in most people lives. Many are judged based off of how intelligent they seem to be. In the movie Flowers for Algernon, Charlie is a truly genuine person. He loves to please people and tries to be as smart as possible in order to make people "like" him. Despite his kind personality, most of the people around him judge him based on his mental disability. They think that he isn't capable of acting like an average person. Most of Charlie's friends also have disabilities, because usually people that are friends have common interests, and similarities.
There are many categories of intelligence. There are people who are good at school, and there are also people who are smart in general. By this we mean, they might not understand certain academic-related subjects, but they make general choices that will benefit them. Although, intelligence is very important and everyone should have the opportunity to learn the same way. Almost everyone has the same opportunity to succeed both in school, and life, but it depends on how they choose to excell.
People with mental disabilities are at a slight disadvantage because sometimes they don't learn, and understand things the same way. For example, people with A.D.D. don't learn normally because their minds don't allow them to. Also, people with a more severe disabilities don't learn as well either. Although, in our society we have the privilege of having the chance to benefit from an amazing education system.
Smart or Normal
People who are smart don't necessarily have more friends, it's the people who you would consider "normal." By normal, we mean people who don't have any disabilities, who know how to interact with other people, and those who can do basic to more advanced things without too much difficulties. We think normal people have more friends because the average person doesn't really want to interact with disabled people because either they don't know how to act around them, or they are afraid what people will think of them if they do socialize with someone who is not "normal." Also there are basically two types of being smart: there can be street smart and book smart. Being street smart means you know what to do out in the world, you can take care of yourself, and you can easily interact with people. Being book smart means you are very knowledgeable about subjects and academic-related things, but they are challenged when it comes interacting with other people and fending for themselves. People like Charlie probably face an immense amount of challenges each day, partially because they just can't understand some things that "normal" people would claim obvious. They either can't read people or just were born where they can't do everyday activities that everyone else can. Very smart people also face challenges. The most gifted people may seem below average because it looks like they don't care, when really they just need need an activity or task that they need to use their full brain capacity to complete. They also deal with an issue very similar to those who are disabled because since they are so smart, they don't fit into the category of "normal" so they have issues making friends. Being on a severe side of the spectrum is hard for people, whether being disabled or unnaturally gifted.

BBC is Cool
Hi! I’m Madison. I'm just your average teenage girl, trying to make it out of school alive. It's not as easy as it sounds. School can be tough, but outside of school can be tougher. Trying to juggle family, friends and homework could drive even a normal person mad. Now let me be honest, I'm not normal.
I'm kinda what you might call a geek. I'm into anime, manga and BBC. For those of you who have no idea what any of those are, anime is a kind of Japanese cartoon, manga is the Japanese equivalent to comics, and if you don't know what BBC is, then I am so sorry, because you have never lived. BBC, or British Broadcasting Corporation, is Britain's equivalent of ABC. The way I see it, us Americans have teen drama’s like The Secret Life of the American Teenager, well the fantastic British has epic shows about magic and science fiction, like Merlin, Sherlock, and my all time favorite, Doctor Who. Now I could write a book about how cool BBC is, but I think I might bore you. So I'll leave you with this one thought. Watching BBC is like taking the TARDIS to Gallifrey and getting a chance to meet River Song and the Doctor. It's fantastic and cool and out of this world. BBC is and always will be, brilliant.

Hi, my name is Jackson and I love to to ski. I live in a ski town in north-central Utah. It is about 30 minutes from Salt Lake City. I do competitive slop style skiing. That is going off jumps and doing tricks. Slope style skiing is one of the up and coming sports. It is one of the new sports going into the 2014 Sochi Russia Olympic games. Half pipe is also going to be in the next Olympics. I do half pipe, too, but I still have a lot of improving to do. I think I need a little more confidence and some time to practice. The best half pipe skier is Simon Dumont. He will have a perfect landing almost every time, while doing the most difficult tricks that anyone has done.
I am on a team to practice and get better. This team is called Axis Freeride. The head coach is hatch. They do a winter and summer camp. The summer is off of ramps into a pool at the Utah Olympic park. This is a very fun camp to do and it helps on my skills.

I am thirteen years old, and I go the Treasure Mountain Junior High. I really like the beach and I like the warm weather much more than the snow up here. However, I still love to ski and I go every weekend of the winter. My favorite sport is baseball, and I play on the competitive team for Park City. My baseball season goes from January to July, and it takes a lot of time out of the year. This is very fun, but it gets very tiring after a while. The life of a Parry
This is a picture of me and my dog when I was six.
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda Marie Parry. I was born in San Jose, California on a brisk and sunny day in October of 1998. I am fourteen years old and can't wait till October when I get my learners permit. My family consists of my parents, Rob and Kimber, my older brother Bryce, and my two dogs Koda and Murphy. Bryce is in college at Cal Poly University and is a Physics Major. I moved to Park City six years ago, from California.
My favorite things to do are playing lacrosse, skiing, and riding horses. I have been skiing since I was three years old. I learned how to ski at a resort in California called Bear Valley. These days I spend my time skiing at Park City with my friends every weekend. I have been playing lacrosse since I was in fifth grade and it is so much fun, because all of my friends play too. Right now I am on two teams, Park City and 212 lacrosse. In April I plan on trying out for the National team that goes to Florida to play in a National tournament with teams from all over the country. I play defense and I get called for intimidation occasionally. My best friends are Claudia Lagnese, Clara Schmae, and Alanna Hamill. I hope you enjoyed learning about me!

HOLA WORLD
Hello world good to see you. My name is Jack Dalton I am 13 years of age. I love skiing. Park City is a dream place for me to live. This week, I will be leaving on wednesday for a ski race in Sun Valley Idaho. I have been on the Park City Ski Team since I was 7 or 8 years old. Yes, sometime it gets a little boring doing the same thing, day after day. So every now and again, a break is good. We train 6 days a week for at least 2 hours of full on gate training. My Idol is Ted Ligety. He grew up on this same ski team and is now a member of the U.S. Ski Team and he dominates the GS World Cup circuit. I love to have fun and am a bit of a goofy kid as seen in the picture above. No need to fear for there is an affect in there somewhere.
Hi, my name is...
Hi, my name is Chris Hickey. I'm from Park City but I actually don't like the snow. I'm more of a summer kid, but not the "pool type". I ride my dirt jumper everywhere and I'm an amateur street, dirt, and slopestyle rider. I also play the bass guitar and love music with a passion. My favorite band of all time is Motionless in White. My favorite company's are Deity components, the Rise, and Intense bikes. I'm not to interesting and not too important. I'm only really writing this for a school assignment. I don't really like to post to the internet about myself, I think it's kinda weird. I mean like what if a creep dude is on the other side of the screen reading about me. Trust me creepy man, the kid above ^^ and below vv are much more interesting. So don't come creeping after me.
The Girl with a Face and Hair...
Let us see what you can assume of me. I have brown hair, right now it's in a bun. I moved to Park City about two years ago from sunny Southern California. I miss the beach! I play soccer but only for fun. Writing is my more serious hobby. You never see me without my phone and iPod on me because I'm just awesome like that. Using pens as mustaches is kinda what I do when I get bored and if I can't find a pen, I use my hair! On the weekends, you will typically find me lying around doing nothing. Nothing at all. People tell me I am tall but I'm only around 5'7 and 1/2. I am breathing right now. And writing. This is a strange, strange post. My favorite animal is an elephant because everyone calls them fat and they don't care. Unless they do and we just will never know how they feel. Well, now I'm sad. Thanks Ms. Hooker! You're making me very, very, VERY sad!! Just kidding! Wow now I'm bored. Why am I doing this to myself? I have a dog named Jasmine and two older sisters whose names remain anonymous. My skin is at a light tan and I don't like talking out loud very much. SO hopefully you know who I am now! I AM THE GIRL! THE GIRL WITH A FACE AND HAIR! I AM THE GIRL WITH THE NAME! I go by the name of Lauren. Lauren Reinecke. Have a nice day!
